6-Day Trekking Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in São Luís / Barreirinhas
- Arrival at São Luís International Airport.
- Transfer from São Luís to Barreirinhas (approx. 4 hours).
- Evening at leisure.
Day 2 – Barreirinhas → Atins → Baixa Grande
- Morning transfer from Barreirinhas by speedboat (voadeira) through Rio Preguiças, with stops at Vassouras, Mandacaru (Farol de Preguiças), and Caburé for lunch.
- Late afternoon, begin trekking across dunes toward the oasis of Baixa Grande (approximately 8 km on foot), with opportunities for bathing and sunset views in the dunes.
- Overnight in a “rede” (hammock) at a local’s house, under the stars.
Day 3 – Baixa Grande → Patacas
- Early morning departure, trekking about 14 km to Patacas.
- Lunch at Rancho Patacas prepared by locals. Optional extra 6 km to Lagoa do Bicudo Gordo for an unforgettable sunset.
- Overnight with local hosts.
Day 4 – Patacas → Santo Amaro
- Start early (around 5 AM), trekking roughly 8 km through beautiful lagoons (e.g., Junco or Cajueiro Lagoas).
- Arrival in Santo Amaro, followed by 3-hour road transfer
- Overnight in Santo Amaro.
Day 5 – Santo Amaro
- Optional tours: Visit Betânia.
- Enjoy the stunning dunes around Lagoa da Gaivota and Andorinhas.
- Overnight in Santo Amaro.
Day 6 – Return to São Luís
- Breakfast at the pousada.
- Transfer back to São Luís.
