Three days on foot through the interior of Lençóis Maranhenses — no roads, no vehicles, just white dunes and crystal lagoons stretching to the horizon. You sleep in hammocks in the homes of the communities who have lived inside the park for generations. Then the route continues: Delta do Parnaíba, Jericoacoara, Fortaleza.

The first three days are a genuine wilderness crossing. Not a guided walk on a marked trail — a multi-day traverse of the dune interior, staying in hammocks (redes) in the homes of local families in communities that can only be reached on foot. What to expect:
Air-conditioned vehicle. ~4 hours. Overnight in Barreirinhas hotel. Your guide will brief you on the trek: what to pack, what to leave behind, and what to expect in the dunes.
Private speedboat down the Preguiças River to Atins.
4x4 from Atins to the mouth of Rio Negro (20km along the coast), then on foot into the dunes. The first stage of the crossing. Arrival at Baixa Grande — a genuine oasis inside the national park, accessible only on foot. Accommodation, lunch and dinner prepared by local residents (regional chicken or goat, not included in price). Sunset from a nearby dune. Sleep in hammocks at the local home.
Departure at 6am (or agreed with guide). The longest walking day crosses the park's most spectacular lagoon fields — stops to swim and rest throughout. Arrival at Queimada dos Britos: a remote village that has been the setting for the film "Casa de Areia" and numerous national and international documentary productions. Lunch and dinner (not included) prepared by local hosts. Hammock overnight.
Departure at 4am (or agreed with guide) to avoid the midday heat. The final and longest stage of the crossing. Arrival in Betânia village at approximately 11am. Snack kit provided. Transfer from Betânia to Barreirinhas by vehicle. Hotel check-in, rest, and a well-earned dinner in town.
Air-conditioned vehicle — a welcome change after three days on foot.
Motorboat: Baía do Caju, Morro do Meio dunes, Ninho dos Guarás (scarlet ibis nesting area).
Trail and dune route to Praia de Itaqui: freshwater and saltwater swimming, cliffs, lighthouse. Lunch at Resort Vila Itaqui (not included).
Private 4x4 Jardineira by road to Jericoacoara, incorporating the West Side tour: Tatajuba, Lago Grande, Mangue Seco, Guriú beaches — a moving excursion that ends at your hotel.
Private Toyota Jardineira: Lagoa do Paraíso, Lagun Beach, Buraco Azul, Pedra Furada (private tours only).
Private 4x4 from Jericoacoara along the beach to Praia do Preá, then secondary roads through Acaraú and Itarema. Stops at Icaraí da Amontada, Apiques, Baleia and Mundaú beaches, ferry crossing at Barra do Trairi, Lagoinha beach, then asphalt through Cumbuco and Icaraí to Fortaleza. One of the most scenic transfer routes in Brazil.
Private vehicle. 15–25 minutes from most hotels in Fortaleza.
